Unbalanced P-Valves: These valves do not automatically adjust to changes in external water pressure. As a diver descends and the water pressure increases, an unbalanced valve might become harder to open due to the higher external pressure. Conversely, upon ascent, the decreased external pressure can make the valve easier to open but might also lead to unwanted opening if not securely closed.

Balanced P-Valves: Balanced valves are designed to equalize the pressure between the inside of the drysuit and the external water pressure. This design ensures that the effort required to open the valve remains consistent, regardless of the depth. As a result, a balanced P-valve provides a more reliable and comfortable experience for the diver, as it reduces the risk of the valve being difficult to open at depth or accidentally opening during ascent.
