Is this an item that a reasonably handy person who is used to working with machinery be able to install himself, or is it something that requires special tools or skills?Thanks

This product does need to be installed by a certified Regulator Technician. You can contact Joe, who is our regulator technician in shop, at Joe@diverightinscuba.com with any questions that you may have. Joe would be able to install this kit if you would like to send in your regulator for service.
