The red side of the mirror is designed to be used at night, the principle behind it is to create a ""red flare"" effect that will act as a contrast against the white light of moonlight or other ambient lighting in the area. A signal mirror is a great signaling device to have on you, as the reflection signal can bee seen at a long distance.
