Hi Dave, This spool does have some differences when compared to the Apeks spools. It does not have the flared design that the Apeks spool has, it also does not have the knurled outer edge that the Apeks has. It is made of Marine grade aluminum, where the Apeks uses aircraft grade aluminum. It does have the same large center hole that Apeks does, to allow for easier use with dry gloves on. And both come with a stainless steel snap, and both spools have their aluminum anodized to protect the surface of the spool.
