I have these pockets on my harness, they will hold 16lbs on each side. The pocket insert is long as opposed to wide so you can stack weights on top of each other. The opening would most likely not fit an 8lb soft weight unless it is long and thin, I use 2 5lb with 2 3lb weights stacked in mine and it takes every bit of room.
