I can't tell from the pictures. Do these go on the belt horizontally or upright?

Gerry, these pockets can be installed in either a vertical or horizontal position. When mounted in the horizontal position, there is an installed tri-glide on the pouch to keep the pocket from sliding on your webbing; in vertical mounting, you will want to add one or two tri-glides, and a D-ring to prevent any shifting of the pocket on the webbing.
